Practice by using the up/down arrows to locate an item, then select it by clicking on it once. Notice that, when clicked, the item becomes shaded. Note that you can select multiple items on this list by holding down the control key and clicking on an item. You can also type the first character of the item you are searching for and it will take you to the first instance of that letter.

You can also select a batch of items by clicking on the first item and, while holding the shift key down, click on the last item. Everything between the first and last item will be selected. Try this now.

Practice by clicking on the up/down arrow to display the menu contents. Holding your mouse key down, drag your cursor to the item you want to select and release the mouse key. The item will be displayed in the menu bar.
