Public Notice and Opportunity to Comment


    The Local Rules Committee for the Eastern District of Wisconsin has proposed that the district’s rules of practice and procedure for both civil and criminal cases be revised. 

    In accordance with Rule 83(a), Fed. R. Civ.P. and Rule 57(a)(1), Fed. R. Crim.P., before the judges of the district are able to amend the local rules, there must be a public notice and opportunity to comment.

    The final draft of the revised version of the rules, together with a draft showing the changes made to the current rules appears on this website.  Also placed on the website is a summary of the proposed revisions.

The current term of office of United States Magistrate Judge Patricia J. Gorence is due to expire on March 31, 2010. The United States District Court is required bylaw to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new eight-year term.  Comments from members of the bar and public are invited.  Comments must be received no later than December 10, 2009.  Please see the following memo:
