Welcome to jury service for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin.  This information will answer your questions about federal jury service.  When you report for jury service, you will receive an orientation explaining your duties and obligations as a federal juror.

LOCATION:  The Federal Courthouse is located at 517 East Wisconsin Avenue.  The building is open to the public at 8:00 a.m.  You enter the building from Wisconsin Avenue and report to the Jury Assembly room located on the third floor in Room 398.

PARKING:  Public parking lots are available near the courthouse.  Do not park on the street, because parking meters are limited to one hour.  An alternative to driving and parking downtown would be to take the bus.  For route and scheduling information, call the Milwaukee County Transit System at 414-344-6711 or Wisconsin Coach Lines at 262-542-8861.

The  Milwaukee Visitors Bureau web site contains information regarding hotels, restaurants, and recreational opportunities in Milwaukee.

REPORTING FOR JURY SERVICE:  You will be instructed to call the court's recorded message the day before you are scheduled to report. The recorded message can be reached after 4:00 p.m. at 866-894-4703 and will either confirm your service or advise of changes and cancellations.  The 866-894-4703 is toll free.

It is very important that you call before reporting for jury service.

TERM OF SERVICE:  You will be notified by mail of a date to report.  On that date, you will participate in the jury selection process.  If selected, you will serve until the trial has ended and your term of service will be completed.  Most trials last an average of 3 to 4 days.  If you are not selected, do not report again until you receive another notice.  As a federal juror, you will be required to serve a minimum of three days or on one trial.  Each day you report will count toward the three day minimum requirement.

REQUESTS TO BE EXCUSED:  The Jury Administrator may temporarily excuse you from reporting when there is a grave illness in the family or other emergency which would result in undue hardship or extreme inconvenience.  If you will be on vacation or out of town during your term of service, please notify the Jury Administrator in advance and you will be granted a temporary excuse.  Requests should be mailed to Clerk, U.S. District Court, Attention Jury Administrator, 517 East Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53202 or by telephone 414-297-1209.

PAYMENTS:  All attendance fees and reimbursements will be on one check and issued within 12 days.
