Notice Regarding Change in Social Security Case Assignments

Wednesday, April 18, 2018

Since the creation of the Green Bay Division in 2002, the clerk’s office has assigned most civil cases filed within the district based on the case’s geographical nexus in either the Milwaukee Division or the Green Bay Division. In order to address a longstanding disparity in the number of Social Security case filings between the district’s Green Bay and Milwaukee Divisions, our office will begin assigning Social Security cases to judges without respect to the case’s geographical nexus, which is usually determined by the plaintiff’s place of residence. For example, a case brought by a plaintiff residing in the Green Bay Division could be assigned to a judge based in Milwaukee, and vice-versa. Case assignments will continue to be random, of course. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
