The current term of office of part-time United States Magistrate Judge James R. Sickel in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Green Bay Division, is due to expire on December 8, 2020. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judge to a new four-year term.
The duties of the part-time magistrate judge position include the following:
trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases;
conduct of mediation of civil cases assigned to the district judge sitting in Green Bay;
review and issuance of search and arrest warrants and similar process presented by the U.S. Attorney’s Office and other federal law enforcement agencies.
