NOTICE TO PRISONERS OF THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF WISCONSIN’S UPDATED FILING FEE POLICY

Effective March 15, 2021, and consistent with 28 U.S.C. §1915(b)(1), any prisoner who brings a civil action in forma pauperis will be required to pay the $350 statutory filing fee, even if the case is dismissed—voluntarily or by the court—prior to the court screening the complaint.  Prisoners who cannot pay the full fee at once will be required to make monthly payments as described in §1915(b)(2).

Decision and Order Affirming Bankruptcy Court

Bankruptcy court’s decision denying real estate purchaser’s motion to enforce plan confirmation order against holder of right of first refusal was not legally or factually erroneous.  The holder of the ROFR had not received sufficient notice to protect its interest before the property was sold; and because the purchaser knew or should have known of the defect in title, it could not claim bona fide purchaser status.

Press Release: New Bankruptcy Judge

Chief Judge Diane S. Sykes of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel M. Blise to a 14-year term as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Ms. Blise succeeds former Bankruptcy Judge Brett H. Ludwig, who was appointed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin last September. Ms. Blise will take the oath of office and join the bankruptcy bench in Milwaukee on March 17, 2021.
