Press Release: New Magistrate Judge

Chief Judge Pamela Pepper announced today that the district judges of the United States District Court have selected Stephen Caffrey Dries, of Brookfield, to serve as the next magistrate judge in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, effective April 7, 2020. The Eastern District, home to some 3.4 million residents, consists of the twenty-eight counties in the eastern half of Wisconsin.

General Order Regarding COVID-19 Screening

The court is issuing this general order in response to the recent outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the United States of America, and specifically in the State of Wisconsin and the Eastern District of Wisconsin. The Governor of the State of Wisconsin has declared a public health emergency in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and the Centers for Disease Control and other public health agencies have advised public and private entities to take precautions in order to reduce the spread of the virus.

General Order Regarding COVID-19 Virus Public Emergency

In recognition of ongoing public health concerns involving the coronavirus (COVID-19), the court issued the following order on March 13, 2020 [LINK].  Among other things, the order postpones, until May 1, 2020, all jury trials, and cancels naturalization ceremonies and other public events scheduled at the courthouse during that same period.  The Eastern District of Wisconsin will continue to follow the developing public health situation.
